Superman

When I was a boy the 1978 film Superman was incredibly potent in my young mind.

I loved the idea of a boy that grew up in a world like my own with a mother and father just like mine, a boy that grew up be super human  and to try and save a world from itself. I liked that he was lousy with people most of the time, putting on a pedestrian face fooling the insensible people in his day to day world, people too unimaginative to realize what was in front of them.

I love that he could have chosen any woman in the world but he chose to fall in love with the strange, flawed, beautiful, and abrasive Lois Lane. The foolish girl though one of his powers was to read minds. It was simply obvious t everyone what she was thinking.

I really wish there was someone powerful out there that cared about you and me and fought for truth justice and for an America that has lost its way. I suppose we ought to stop waiting and get up and do something to save ourselves. Still, it’s fun to dream.
