Shane Gooseman

This is Shane Gooseman. He’s a character from my favorite 1980’s cartoon, The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers. He’s a space cowboy.
Yeah you heard me, he’s a space cowboy. He travels through the universe punishing wicked aliens and rounding up cosmic desperadoes. He’s even got a robot horse name Triton. He’s kind of a cross between Sting, Clint Eastwood, and Rutger Hauer’s character from Blade Runner. He’s seen things you people wouldn’t believe. He good with a gun (or two), has great hair, and lots of science-fictiony angst. And I love him.

His close friends call him “Goose”

I intended to do a more radical rework of his uniform but in the end I stayed true to the original design. Why change it? It looks great!

Some differences: His gloves are a bit shorter and looser around the wrists to give them a more cowboy look.
His gun-belt is a more elaborate with some mysterious gadgets (could those be grenades?) and the holsters are open at the bottom revealing the tip of the gun barrels.
I struggled to draw the gun from the reference I had so I redesigned it from scratch. I made it look more like a Civil War era revolver, which I think the blaster from the cartoon was based on. It now looks less like a laser gun and more like Mal’s gun from Firefly.
I also added some spurs. I figure he uses em’ to tap out nonverbal commands to his robot horse. Yes, I know, it’s silly.
He wears some crazy space chaps but I added some buttons in case he has to… ahem, you know, tinkle.
And I left his collar unbuttoned.
